What is wrong with Manchester United?

For the past three years, it looks like the theatre of dreams has been haunted.  Ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have become a shadow of their former selves.

In the three seasons after Sir Alex's departure, the Red Devils have finished 7th, 4th and 5th respectively on the Premier League log. Currently, they are 6th on the log with 18 points after 11 games. That is their worst start under the post Sir Alex era.

So what do the Red Devils lack this season? On paper, they have the strongest squad in the Premier League, maybe in the world. In Jose Mourinho, they have one of the greatest managers of all time. Depth is one of their key strengths.

David de Gea has proved himself to be a worthy successor of Edwin Van der Sar ever since he joined in 2011. They have solid centre-backs like Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and new signing Eric Bailly. In Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw, they have two reliable full-backs.

Their midfield is their strongest department, with Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Morgan Scheinderlin and Bastian Schweinstieger (yes, him) all being worthy candidates for the defensive midfield spot while record signing Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are all great play-makers in their own right. The striking department now boasts of new signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

This season, De Gea has been the only consistent performer. His defence has let him down a couple of times, most notably in their 4-0 loss to rivals Chelsea. Daley Blind looks unnatural in defence, Smalling hasn't picked up last season's form and Antonio Valencia's performances at right-back have been forgettable.

Mourinho's biggest dilemma is his midfield, whereas there is a case of too many options. Fellaini has been disappointing in his role and has started ahead of Scheinderlin and Schweinstieger, who have yet to be given a chance to prove themselves. Pogba has shown glimpses of brilliance at times, but has yer to step up as Man Utd's playmaker. Mhkitaryan and Memphis Depay have fallen out of favour with Mourinho, who prefers Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard on the wings. Club captain Rooney has also been dropped a few times due to a string of dull performances, finding himself on the bench or dropped altogether for big games with Liverpool and Chelsea.

Club legend Paul Scholes has called the club's form in the past three years "depressing". He believes the team lacks pace going forward, due to Mourinho prefering the attacking trio of Rooney, Mata and Ibrahimovic. Mourinho hasn't had a stable starting line-up this season, often rotating the squad especially in midfield. Unlike Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, who have  near constant line-ups, Mourinho has never used the same line-up for two consecutive games and has yet to find that winning starting eleven.

It is still early in the season, but Mourinho's start has been worse than Moyes' and Van Gaal's, and he still has 27 games to go to make Manchester United great again.

Bafana Bafana ready for Sadio Mane

The South African Football Association have confirmed that Bafana Bafana arrived in Polokwane on Monday for their clash against African giants, Senegal.
" Bafana Bafana arrived in Polokwane on Monday to start preparations for the upcoming crucial world cup qualifier against Senegal on Sartuday, 12 November 2016 at Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane," SAFA stated.

Many South African football fans are afraid of Liverpool and African star, Sadio Mane, although they still believe that they can get three points against African Giants. The 24 year old, is Liverpool hot property this season with six goals in eleven games and with the number of assists.

Sadio Mane, has played a number of games this season with Liverpool, proving to be the teams crucial member in their attack with his physique, pace, dribbling, technique and ability to score goals consistently. The African star is one of the contenders already for Barclays Premier League's player of the season judging on his current perfomances, although it wont be an easy journey for him with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Kevin De Bruyne, Edine Hazard, Adam Lallana and Rahim Sterling in the forms of their lives.

Bafana Bafana will kiss their dream goodbye to qualify for the 2018 world cup in Russia if they loose against Senegal and having already played one game against Burkina Faso, securing a point, they just need three points  to keep their existence in the group stages and boost their chances of qualifying.

Senegal are already on three points after beating Mozambique and they take this game very serious as they will still lead the group with 6 points if they win against South Africa on Saturday.

Sundowns Advances to Caf Champions league final

Mamelodi Sundowns have advanced to the Caf champions league final 2016, after beating Zesco united, 2-0 in their second leg semi finals clash on the 24th of September 2016, two days before my birthday which was on the 26th of September 2016. Many South African football lovers, didn't give the Cloorkop based outfit a chance after they were beaten 2-1 in their first leg Caf champions league semi final on the 17th of September 2016, Thanks to their star strike, Khama Billiat, for scoring a away crucial goal, that lifted their hopes for the second leg clash, that they won 2 - 0, thanks to Antoney Laffor and Percey tau goals that helped the Tshwane baed outfit reach the finals after a long period of time.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now face Egyptian giants, Zamalek, for their double leg final. They will travel to Egypt for their first leg clash on the 14th of October 2016, Friday, then they will play their second leg final match on the 21th of October 2016, Friday. Many believe that Mamelodi Sundowns can beat Zamalek again in the finals, after they had already beaten the Egyptian giants twice during the group stages of the tournament. The Tshwane based outfit is the best team in South Africa currently, but they are under pressure to perform, they have managed to reach two finals in  one week after beating Chippa United 1-0 in their second leg MTN semi final and Zesco United 2 -1 in their Caf champions league Semi final.

Mamelodi Sundowns came first on their group stages of the tournament with 9 points, Zamalek came second in the same group with Mamelodi Sundowns with 6 points. This is good news to Mamelodi Sundowns fans and South Africa as a whole, because this means that, the Tshwane based outfit, will play their Second leg final match at home but will travel for the first leg clash. Pitso Mosimane has turned Mamelodi Sundowns, into one of the big teams, both domestically and in African competitions, although Zamalek, are the most consistent club in African competitions after winning this competition several times together with their rivals Al Ahly.

TUT VS UJ IN VARSITY FOOTBALL FINAL

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), will be facing the Braamfontein based outfit, University of Johannesbirg (UJ) in varsity football final 2016. Many have said that (TUT) are the favourites to lift this trophy this season after winning 7 games, drawing two and not loosing even one match in group stages. On the 22nd of September 2016 (Thursday) at Tshwane University of Technology main campus, the kickoff is at 17:45 pm.

Many have said that this is a "must see final" because both teams were the favourites to reach the final of which it occurred eventually. Both teams are highly talented with players who are comfortable with the ball on their feet, so many football lovers, believe that, this should be an open and attacking game from both sides with a lot of goals after their recent performances although, (Tut) has beaten (UJ) in the qualifying stages of the tournament.

Tshwane University of Technology football team, have reached the finals of this tournament for two years in a row.  Tut were beaten 2-1 by (UWC) in the 2015 varsity football final, however the Tshwane based outfit is determined to gain their ruined image this year, against University of Johannesburg. Tut have the advantage this time, as they will be playing from home with the support that they will need to win the game.

The matter of the Brazilian's arrival from Santos in 2013 has been reopened after the Spanish league confirmed they will be launching another hearing
La Liga has officially launched an investigation into the deal Barcelona agreed with the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office in relation to Neymar's transfer.

Earlier in 2016, the Spanish High Court threw out a case that alleged fraud in the Brazil international's transfer from Santos in 2013.
Barca agreed to pay a fine of €5.5million in order to close legal proceedings but the situation is seemingly not at an end yet, with La Liga seeking more details from the club.
"Following widespread media reports, La Liga confirms an informative hearing will be launched with FC Barcelona in relation to the agreement reached between the club's board and the Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office in the Neymar legal case," read a statement from the Spanish league's office.

The deal exonerated former president Sandro Rosell and current chief Josep Maria Bartomeu of blame, which drew criticism from former president Joan Laporta who claimed "the honour of the club is at stake". story takken from GOAL.COM

Joe Harr does just like Bravo of Man City.

Joe Hart's time at Torino got off to a poor start as an error from the goalkeeper led to Atalanta equalising against his side.

The goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester City after losing out on his place in the first-team under Pep Guardiola, lined up for the Serie A side for the first time on Sunday.

And just as many supporters pointed out that Claudio Bravo cost City a goal in the Manchester derby on Saturday, Hart went and made a similar error in Bergamo.

Iago Falque had given Torino the lead, but two minutes later Hart helped undo his side's good work when he flapped at a corner, allowing Andrea Masiello to knock it into the open net and tie up the score.

The day had perhaps not been going the England international's way from the very beginning, as he had been named on the official team sheet as "John Hart".

Ronaldo wants 10 year contract

MADRID - Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested Real Madrid should offer him a 10-year contract to ensure he sees out his career at the Spanish club.

"If I were the president of Real Madrid, I would give myself a 10-year contract," Real's all time top scorer, now 31, told reporters after scoring on his return from injury in a 5-2 La Liga win over promoted Osasuna.

Ronaldo's current contract runs out in 2018.

"Right now I'm not thinking about anything else in my career, all I want is to retire at Real. This is the biggest club in the world and it should have the best players," said the Portuguese.

Ronaldo also hit back at old adversary and former Barcelona great Xavi for suggesting that Lionel Messi was a better player than the Real striker.

"Xavi never won the Ballon d'Or, I have three," he said, referring to the FIFA award for the world player of the year.

Xavi had told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser last Wednesday that there was "no comparison" between Messi, who has won the Ballon five times, and Ronaldo.

"Cristiano's problem is that there's another player in his era who is the best of all time," he added.

Xavi is seeing out the final years of a glittering career at Qatari club Al Sadd. He won eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues with Barcelona as well as two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup with Spain.

Ronaldo, who had been out of action for two months with a knee injury, won the Ballon d'Or in 2008, 2013 and 2014 and is favourite for another this year after winning the Champions League with Real and Euro 2016 with Portugal.

He played 65 minutes against Osasuna, his first appearance since injuring his knee in the Euro 2016 final.

"I felt good physically, I could have played for 90 minutes without any problems but in some moments I played with a little fear, but that's normal after not playing for so long," said Ronaldo.

"I'm fit again and got back in the swing of things, and I scored a goal, so it was perfect."

Nasri opens up about Man City future amid transfer speculation

By ALICE MCKEEGAN Manchester Evening News

Samir Nasri has hinted he could still leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in City's win over West Ham on Sunday after making his first squad appearance of the season.

The Frenchman did not play a part in any of the pre-season games, with Pep Guardiola explaining the midfielder had arrived for training overweight.

His exclusion from the first two Premier League games and City's Champions League squad for the play-off against Steaua Bucharest did not bode well for Nasri's future at the Etihad, with reports from France suggesting Turkish club Besiktas were interested in a loan deal.

Guardiola admitted after the West Ham match he was happy for Nasri to remain at the club but 'it depends on him'.

Nasri spoke to French channel SFR Sport post-match and admitted he may still move away , despite his squad inclusion.

He said: "Yes, there could still be movement. It depends on a lot of things in fact.

"There's been a lot of speculation. Things that are true. Things that are false too because they've never shown me the door or anything like that.

"But I said 'everything depends on what's up there [in your head] and your desire'. So we'll see. We're going to sit down, discuss it and see what's to be done."

Messi Back in The National Team

Messi: Why I Returned For Argentina
FC Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, has explained why he decided to return to the Argentina national side.

The 29-year-old initially announced his retirement after missing a penalty in the Copa America final loss to Chile in July.

However, the Barcelona forward announced on Friday that he will return to the national side ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Venezuela.

"A lot of things went through my head the day of the last final and I seriously thought about quitting, but I love this country and this shirt too much," Messi said in a statement.

"I thank all the people who want me to keep playing with Argentina, I hope we can soon deliver them some joy."

New Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza revealed he had a brief conversation with the Barcelona forward, and reveals they only spoke about football.

"I see there are lots of problems in Argentine football and I do not want to create another," Messi said through a statement released on Friday evening.

"I do not want to cause any harm, I have always tried to do the opposite and help wherever I could.

"We have to fix a lot of things in Argentine football, but I'd rather do that from the inside and not criticising from the outside."

Preseason helps Kaizer Chiefs see the importance of trophy winning

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has highlighted the importance of his team winning pre-season trophies in order to develop a better appetite for winning.

Amakhosi went down on penalties to PSL newbies Baroka FC in the F.A.M.E Charity Cup final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

Komphela conceded his disatisfaction at the defeat but felt there was a lot could take from the tournament as he sets his stalls for the start of the new season, in which plenty is expected from the club's supporters.

"We want to win everything, even at training," said Komphela. "Even a game of cards; you play cards to win.

"So we also came here [to Polokwane] and wanted to win but, unfortunately, on penalties we couldn't.

"But there is lot of positive one picked up here. We are in preparatory phase, there is lot things we are looking at.

"I'm sure when we go back home we will look at the clips and notice there is a lot of pluses, except for them missing the penalties that we had."

Two weeks ago, Amakhosi showed good signs of things to come when they outclassed arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup to claim the bragging rights, scoring two goals in regulation time.

However, this past weekend Komphela's side failed to hit the back of the net in the Charity final, yet the former junior national team mentor remained unpertubed and expressed his contentment at his team's chances created.

"We did create chances and it is only that we needed to hit the back of net," he added.

"[Lewis] Macha had one or two chances, and there was a chance for [Kgotso] Moleko, and Tsepo [Masilela] was also in the box and a couple of times we found ourselves in the box.

"It is good to see the team getting in the box... You just need to get into the habit of hitting the back of the net, that's it. We failed to score but we did create chances."

The Glamour Boys will get their season underway with an Absa Premiership encounter away to Bidvest Wits on August 23, before a trip to newcomers Cape Town City in the MTN 8 three days later.

"I left Real Madrid CF because of my play time":jese Rodriguez

New PSG Signing: Why I Left Real
Paris Saint-Germain's new signing has explained why he decided to leave UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid.

Jese Rodriguez recently departed Los Blancos for the Ligue 1 champions in a deal worth to be €21 million (R318 million).

However, the Spanish forward reveals he left the 11-time Champions League winners due to playing time, having played second fiddle to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

"After 10 years at Real Madrid, it was time to change," Jese told reporters.

"I'm at a great club that gives me the chance to progress as player. Surely here I will have more minutes.

"I had some words with [Madrid coach Zinedine] Zidane, he's a great person. He wanted me to play and he knew it was going to be difficult.

"I also want to thank to [Madrid president] Florentino Perez and my team-mates.

Masango Wants out of Randers FC.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Mandla Masango, is training alone in Denmark as his dispute with Randers drags on and he seeks an exit from the club.

Masango, 27, enjoyed an impressive start to life in Europe after leaving the Amakhosi last year, quickly making a name for himself as he became a fan favourite at his new club.

However, recently his situation has become complicated after he refused to train with the club and was consequently left out of the matchday squad for their last two games, suggesting that a move could be on the cards for him.

The Siya crew contacted Randers’ sports manager, Ole Nielsen, who explained that the winger is training alone, saying that the reason is because he's 'not ready'.

Nielsen said, “Mandla Masango has told us that he is not ready to train together with his teammates/squad, and it his decision not to train in Randers FC.”

There is just under a month left of the Danish transfer window before it slams shut, and it remains to be seen whether a club such as Aalborg – who have shown interest in Masango previously – will up their offer, however it appears that Randers are in no rush to sell unless a suitable offer is put forward. Official: Man Utd Complete World-Record Deal For Pogba
Manchester United have announced the signing of Paul Pogba in what is the most expensive transfer in football history.

The Red Devils have confirmed Pogba's move from Juventus to Old Trafford, and the deal is reportedly worth €105 million (R1.58 billion) – a new transfer world record – plus add-ons and agent fees

Pogba joins United on a five-year deal, and will reportedly earn €13 million (R20.5 million) net, plus another €7 million (R110 million) in image rights, according to Sky Sports.

“I am delighted to rejoin United. It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with José Mourinho," he told the club's official website.

Captain my Captain Kekana for Mamelodi Sundowns

Kekana Named Sundowns Captain
Hlompho Kekana has been given the responsibility of captaining Mamelodi Sundowns after taking over the armband from former teammate, Ramahlwe Mphalele.

The 31-year-old is a vital component of Pitso Mosimane’s side and is seen as a leading figure amongst the Brazilians.

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that the midfielder will sport the captain’s armband as Mosimane’s side look to continue their winning ways.

“I really did not see this coming. I know that I am an emotional player and have invested my soul in football. I always want to win and this is the spirit in the rest of the team. I have done much behind the scenes in terms of leadership,” Kekana said on the club’s official website.

Sundowns will travel to Nigeria on 23 August to face Enyimba in their final CAF Champions League group encounter, where Kekana will be the commanding force on the field as Masandawana look to claim yet another victory in Africa.

“As individuals, we might have differing opinions about issues, but in the end our common goal as players dictates what we need to do, and we are looking at challenging for trophies. Our goal right now is to win the CAF Champions League,” the midfielder concluded.

The 23-year-old was given the captain's armband by coach Owen Da Gama for the Olympics in Rio, and, so far, he has been a true leader. Overseas clubs will surely be keeping an eye on "KD7" as he is in great shape and impressive form.

MAN CITY SIGN GABRIEL JESUS
Manchester City are delighted to announce the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras.
Gabriel Jesus is recognised as one of South America’s most exciting talents and he was named “best newcomer” in the 2015 Serie A Campeonato.

The 19-year old has signed for Manchester City FC despite strong interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world. He will join the team in January 2017, with a contract that runs until the end of the 2020/21 season. He will remain at Palmeiras until December 2016.

Jesus said: "Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I'm really pleased to sign.

"We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.

"I'm looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we'll have a great future together!"

City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said: "We are delighted that Gabriel has chosen to join us. He is one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and plays the game in a spectacular way. We look forward to him making a big impact at Manchester City in January."

Jesus is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the front three – he possesses a low centre of gravity, an explosive turn of pace and fleet tricky feet making him a master of one-on-one situations as well as perfectly cast in the mould of the quintessential Brazilian striker.

Kicking off his amateur career at Associação Atlética Anhanguera six years ago, Gabriel went on to join Palmeiras in 2012 where he made a name for himself with a phenomenal 54 goals in 48 matches at youth level.

Unsurprisingly, a senior call-up wasn’t far away with Gabriel appearing for the first time on 7 March 2015 in the Campeonato Paulista, coming on in the 73rd minute of a 1–0 win over CA Bragantino at Allianz Parque.

His first professional goal soon followed away to Agremiação Sportiva Arapiraquense on 15 July 2015, the only goal of the two-legged tie.

Since, Jesus has netted 26 goals in 67 first team games for Palmeiras, his goalscoring ratio improving with each passing month of his fledgling career.

Gabriel has represented the Seleção at u20 and u23 level, scoring eight goals in ten games at international youth level. He is currently preparing for the summer Olympics on home soil where, together with Neymar, it’s hoped he will fire the team to the only major honour missing from Brazil’s collection.

Legendary striker Ronaldo is a fan, declaring: “I am betting on two great talents that are still developing but already show a lot of skill: Santos’ Gabigol and Palmeiras’ Gabriel Jesus. And they haven’t even turned 20 yet.”

City reportedly beat off competition from some of the continent’s biggest clubs to land his signature and so supporters will be eagerly awaiting his touchdown in Manchester in January.

One thing is for sure… City fans will now be keeping an especially close eye on Brazil’s progress in Rio this summer.

Jesus becomes City’s sixth signing of summer 2016, joining Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Aaron Mooy at the club.

Two late goals take France to the quarters.

Hosts France secured their spot in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 by defeating Albania 2-0 with late-goals from Antoinne Griezmann and Dimitri Payet.

France made two changes to the team that beat Romania in the opening game, starting with Anthony Martial and Kingsley Coman in place of Griezmann and Paul Pogba, while Payet started in the number 10 role. Albania were without their captain Lorik Cana who was sent-off in the last game against Switzerland.

Albania had the first chance of the game in the 13th minute when Emir Lenjani's shot from the left went over the bar. In the 36th minute, Payet's free-kick found Olivier Giroud, who put his header over the bar.

Lenjan had another chance to score in the 38th minute but his effort was blocked by Adil Rami. Albania were awarded a set-piece near the area after Patrice Evra was penalised for a high kick on Andi Lila. The resultant free-kick from Ledian Memushaj went over the bar.
France made a change during half-time, replacing the ineffective Martial for Pogba. France then started pressing forward and in the first minute of the second-half, Giroud's cross from the left was flicked on by Matuidi to Coman, who sent his header wide.

In the 51st minute, Memushaj failed to get enough power in his shot, even though his shot hit the post.
Two minutes later, France had another chance to score when Payet's cross from the left found Pogba on the far post, who volleyed the ball over the bar. Coman's effort in the 56th minute went wide off the mark.

Giroud had another chance to score in the 67th minute but his header from a Coman cross went wide. Another oppurtunity for Giroud to score came one minute later but this time his header from a Blaise Matuidi cross was denied by the crossbar.

Even right-back Bacary Sagna pushed forward to score but his volley in the 78th minute went high and wide. In the 82nd minute, substitute Griezmann failed to connect to Sagna's cross.

In the 90th minute, France finally found their breakthrough through Griezmann, who headed in Rami's cross. The final nail in the coffin came in the dying minutes of the game when Payet cut in from the left and unleashed a low shot to the bottom right corner of the net to secure France's place in the quarter-finals.

Portugal held by Iceland

Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland after Nani's opener in the 31st minute was cancelled out by Birkir Bjarnason in the 50th minute.

The action started as early as the 2nd minute when Gylfi Sigurdsson's shot from the left was saved by Rui Patricio. In the 17th minute, Vieirinha cut inside from the right and unleashed a left-footed shot that was saved by Hannes Þór Halldórsson. Two minutes later, Halldórsson denied Portugal another chance when he saved a Nani header which was provided by Cristiano Ronaldo from the left.

Portugal had another chamce in the 22nd minute when Ronaldo's header from a Nani cross went wide. Ronaldo missed another oppurtunity when he failed to latch onto a Pepe long-ball in the 25th minute.

Portugal finally broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when Andre Gomes' low cross found Nani, who slotted the ball on the near post into the net.

Portugal picked up where they left off in the second half when Ronaldo's volley flew wide off the target in the first minute of the second half.

The game took a turn in the 50th minute when Jóhann Berg
Guðmundsson's cross found an unmarked Bjarnason, who volleyed the ball into the net.

Portugal had a chance in the 70th minute when Raphael Guerreiro's free-kick was flicked on by Nani, who sent the ball wide. Ronaldo had an opening in the 72nd minute but his shot went wide. In the 77th minute, substitute Ricardo Quaresma's shot from a tight angle was saved by Halldórsson.

Portugal kept pushing for a winning goal in the last ten minutes and they came close in the 81st minute when Pepe's header from a Quaresma corner went over the bar. Ronaldo had another chance to score after being picked up by Nani from the wing but he sent his header straight into Halldórsson's hands.

A minute later, Iceland nearly pulled a shocker when Sigurdsson unleashed a shot that was well saved by Patricio. Iceland managed to hold on until the final whistle, earning them their first in the European Championships.

Sweden, Ireland share spoils

A Ciaran Clark own goal cancelled out Wes Hoolahan's stunning opener as the Republic of Ireland and Sweden played to a 1-1 draw.

Ireland had the first chance of the game in the 9th minute when Jeff Hendrick's shot was saved by Andreas Isaksson. Ireland had another chance in the 17th minute when captain John O'Shea missed a flick-on header by Clark from a Robbie Brady corner.

Brady had a chance to score in the 25th minute but his shot went over the bar. Ireland had the best chance of the half when Hendrick's curling shot hit the woodwork.

The Irish duo of Glen Whelan and Hoolahan dominated the midfield, which forced Zlatan Ibrahimovic to drop deep to collect balls. Sebastien Larsson was ineffective on the right wing due to losing right-back Mikael Lustig through injury.

Ireland started where they left off in the first half and in the first minute of the second half, Hendrick had a chance to score but his shot was again saved by Isaksson. STEPHEN KESHI DIES AGED 54

It's huge blow to the African continent, after it was announced this morning that another one of the greatest coach is no longer with us.
Caption: Keshi celebrates their victory for winning African Cup
of nations, in Nigeria

Africa is in mourning after waking up to the news that the 54-year-old former Nigerian international had suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The experienced coach was recently linked with a move to the Bucs, with the Soweto giants’ boss paying tribute to the departed mentor.
“It's a great loss,” Khoza told EWN Sport. “He made history as one of the few men to represent his country at AFCON and the World Cup.
“He brought a lot of confidence and motivation to players and coaches looking to make their mark.”

Khoza then spoke of his side’s link with Keshi, revealing that there was at one stage a “70% chance” he would come and coach in the PSL.

"There was a possibility before he joined the Nigerian national team,” he said.

“It's regrettable because at some time we were expecting him to be a coach in South Africa.
“It would've been nice to have a player and coach of his calibre at Pirates.

“At the time when he came from Togo, there was about a 70% that he would come to South Africa.

“There are a lot of Nigerian supporters in South Africa. This time around there were no discussions opened.”

Komphela part of Chiefs massive clear out decision

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela and his technical team were inclusive in the decision-making process that has led to 20 players being shown the door by the club in an apparent large-scale rebuilding process of Amakhosi’s squad.

Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa said he could not comment on the individual technical aspects of the players who have been released from contracts, or whose contracts will not be renewed, which will be addressed at a press conference at the end of June.
Maphosa did confirm that Komphela was instrumental in the process of arriving at the names of players to be culled at Chiefs, whose need to rebuild their squad was patently clear in a season where they ended trophy-less and in fifth position in the PSL.

The Chiefs’ communications manager also confirmed that right-back Siboniso Gaxa is among the players who will be leaving Amakhosi.
There has been confusion over Gaxa’s name being on the list of four players whose contracts have not been renewed. In October Chiefs tweeted that Gaxa had renewed his contract until 2018.
“The contractual issues at this stage – the direct answer is that it’s between the club and the player,” Maphosa said.

“As soon as there is word coming from the club on that [Gaxa’s contract issue], we will inform the media. What we are confirming is that as far as Pa Gaxa is concerned he is on the list of players who have been released by the club."

Jomo Sono says Cosmos played like world beaters

Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono admits he was bemused to lose 3-1 to Maritzburg United on the final day and be condemned to NFD football yet again.
Cosmos – widely criticised for parking the bus too often this season – had a few chances to put the Team of Choice away but didn’t take them, and a plucky Maritzburg fought back for their lives with three goals in the last 10 minutes.
REPORT: Rusike double saves Maritzburg
The look on Sono’s face said it all after his team went behind so late, and the coach failed to pitch for his post-match interview and instead left the pitch quickly upon the final whistle.
“We played like world beaters in the second half, we dominated the game. I thought we’re going to smash them four or five,” he is quoted as saying by PSL.co.za.
“It’s very disappointing and I'm disgusted, but what can you do? We got injuries to key players at an important time.”
